About Us

Who Are We?

We are over 450 neighbors who can spare a little bit of time for others in our neighborhood who need a helping hand. We help:

  • Older residents

  • People with chronic illness

  • Single and teen parents

  • Caregivers who need respite

We fill in the space where community and family used to operate, substituting for family and friends when no one else is available to come to the aid of a neighbor in need. We try to be good-hearted neighbors.

We have available a professionally produced 9-minute video. With words and pictures we show what our volunteers do, and what kinds of services our clients receive.

Persons interested in borrowing a copy may inquire at the office, 456-2898 It is available in both VHS and DVD formats.

Are There Fees For What We Do?

There is no charge to the recipients of our services. Last year we provided more than 4500 volunteer hours to members of the community.

How Do We Do What We Do?

Community Caregivers services to the community are supported by an Executive Director and staff, a Board of Directors and a number of hard-working committees. We provide orientation to, and coordinate, the volunteers, who are insured for liability.

How Can You Help?

  • The number of people needing services continues to grow, so we always need more helpers. We need volunteers to be caregivers, but we also can put people to work in the office, to be on our Speakers Bureau, to serve on committees or the Board of Directors.

  • If you have an hour or two a week, and a helping hand, we have space for you. We need especially to increase our volunteer base in Berne, Knox, New Scotland and Bethlehem.

  • A call to 456-2898 for more information could lead to a rewarding volunteer experience.

How Are We Supported?

We receive financial support from grants, contributions from local churches, businesses and other organizations, and from individual donors. To learn more about making a donation, click here.

Who Is Eligible For Our Services?

Disabled, chronically ill and elderly people are our primary care receivers: those needing transportation, in-home assistance, telephone reassurance and some household chores could receive help from our volunteers. We also provide referrals to other agencies for
Alzheimer's and hospital care, etc, and offer regular blood pressure clinics.

How Can I, or One of My Relatives or Neighbors, Receive Services?

If you or someone you know might qualify for services you can call 456-2898 to arrange for an in-home interview with a member of our staff.
