Caregivers Kids & Families

A community is much more than just streets and buildings and the people who live there. In the best sense, “community” is a shared sense of responsibility towards one another. At Community Caregivers, we understand the value of caring. We know that building healthy communities is about “connecting” people in positive, mutually beneficial ways (relationships). As a natural extension of our commitment to community service, Caregivers has initiated an intergenerational program we call Caregivers  Kids & Families.

We bring together our clients, some of whom are seniors, and families to share meaningful activities, experiences, and to provide services like transportation, shopping, errands or friendly visits. Family volunteering can be done by the whole family together or by one parent with a child or children.  You spend quality time together in a shared experience, while doing something worthwhile for others! Sounds like a wonderful idea, doesn’t it?

When you decide that the time is right for you to offer your time, energy, and talents as a family volunteer team, please think of Community Caregivers and its Caregivers Kids & Families program.  You can make a difference by giving 30 minutes, a few hours, or free time during vacation periods.  Explore volunteering and make it a family affair! Please note that those under 18 must be supervised by an adult family member when volunteering.

 How To Get Involved

1)  It’s easy! Call the Community Caregivers office at (518) 456-2898 and request a      volunteer application for you and your children. Be sure to let the office staff know that you’re interested in the Caregivers Kids & Families program.

2)  Complete the forms and mail them to our office at 2113 Western Ave., Suite 4, Guilderland, NY 12084

3)   When we receive your completed application form(s), we will contact you regarding a general orientation to Community Caregivers and you will hear more specifically about the Caregivers Kids & Families program. Program staff will be available to answer questions and to address any concerns that you or your family members may have. During orientation you will be given basic information about possible caregiver clients you may be paired with. A match with a senior adult in your community is based on information you provide to us regarding interests and hobbies, experiences and preferences.

4)  We will offer you on-going support, throughout the entire process. We want you to have a wonderful experience and we are here to help! Family volunteering helps to dispel myths and stereotypes, promotes an understanding of the aging process, encourages the development of new relationships, promotes tolerance for diversity, empowers youth and seniors to share skills and strengths, and helps to build strong communities.

5)  Start a new family tradition . . . VOLUNTEER!!!
