Q. Is there a fee for your services?
A. No, there is no fee for CC services. We are funded entirely by donations, gifts, and grants.

Q. I’m going to need a ride to a doctor’s appointment, how far ahead of time do I have to call?
A. You can call as far in advance as you’d like to. As a matter of fact, the more notice you can give us, the better. A volunteer may not be assigned until a few days before, but a volunteer will be assigned. Because scheduling can be difficult, we need a minimum of five days notice whenever possible.

Q. I live out of the area but my father still lives in Delmar. He’s pretty independent, but there are times when he needs some assistance. Can Community Caregivers help?
A. We sure can. We provide lots of services on an “as-needed” basis. You can have your father get in touch with us and someone from Caregivers will visit him to explain how things work. Or, contact us the next time you’re planning to come to the Albany area and we can schedule a meeting . Our phone number is 456-2898 and our email is info@communitycaregivers.org.

Q. I’d like to help but I’m retired and I  travel frequently. Can I still volunteer?
A. Absolutely! Community Caregivers is a really great organization to join when you’re retired — or if you’re a busy parent who would like to “give something back,” even if it’s just an hour or two a month. We have over 450 volunteers so there’s always someone who can fill in for you when you’re gone.

Q. How often will I be asked to provide services?
A. That’s difficult to answer precisely. How often you’ll be asked will depend on how often you’d like to volunteer,  what kind of services you’d like to provide, and what our needs are.

Q. I don’t drive but I’d love to help. Is there anything else I can do?
A. Absolutely! We need all sorts of help. Some of our volunteers specialize in helping with our mailing. Some volunteer in the office. Some offer telephone assurance to shut-ins. And our committees are always in need of more help. Call us at 456-2898 or send an email to info@communitycaregivers.org and let us know what you’re good at and we’ll most likely  be able to find you a spot.

Q. What are the Caregivers Kids & Families and what do they do?
A. Caregivers Kids & Families  — or CK — is the youth division of Community Caregivers. The kids range in age from elementary school through high school. CK activities cover an equally wide range. In the past year, CKers have shoveled snow, helped with yard work and seasonal home and garden cleanup, volunteered at the food bank, provided computer assistance, enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment at senior citizen housing, and participated in various other group activities. A program is in the works that would pair CK volunteers and their families with elderly Caregiver clients who would like company and assistance.
